i saw this pumpkin
it reminded me of halloween. i don't know why halloween is celebrated. no one really knows. no one cares either, as long as they can buy things. everything is orange and scary. in the future halloween will be a celebration of the orange people. you know, the ones with almost-pumpkin-coloured faces. fake bake will sponsor it. scary!

Hey missus - could have sworn I saw you this morning! You didn't happen to be taking a photo of halloween decorations hanging on the windows of a house down by the liffey (Just off Pearse Street) did you??
I like Pumpkins though :) Yum.
no, i'm afraid it wasn't me. i might go to that direction tomorrow though. i like pumpkin too, just not pumpkin pie (yuck!). it's very nice roasted.
I wrote about orange today because of this pumpkin.
I think it's a squash.
Halloween was originaly a pagan feist to celebrate the return of the god Bail (also known as Baal, Ba'al, Beal) with his hounds to collect all the dead of the year and bring them to the otherworld. Then he'd do a quick round of the local houses dressed as Dracula, asking for sweets. Those who refused to bear tithe to him were proptly smited with eggs, and had their huts covered with toilet paper. Such is the story of Halloween(ish).
I thought orange people prefered July.
tiny poet - that is so cool! it's a nice orange isn't it?
c'est la craic - jesus christ that bail man sounds scary! i think easter was originally a pagan celebration too. it's the festival of fertility, hence easter bunnies... :)
i suppose when you're permanently orange, it doesn't really matter what time of the year it is.
Orange is a scary colour alright.
You been a busy lady lately?
The vast majority of christian holidays are placed at times that coincided with existing festivals of the pagans. Why would any self respecting pagan give the wild and decadent festivities of saturnalius unless they're was something else on offer. Christmas for example. Three days after the winter solstice, when the sun (or son) is "reborn", and the days start to become longer. It's all about market share in the end.
Bail is the image we now commonly associate with the devil (step 2: after acquiring market share, discredit the competition). He was a god of agriculture (as well as a harvester of souls) and was the husband of the goddess Ishtar (from which we get Easter) So well done ! I like your photographs by the way
I know why Halloween exists! Same as Christmas, because otherwise this is the most ungodly deppressing time of year
lottie - yes, a bit. getting on top of it now, i hope...
c'est la craic - i didn't know any of that. how fascinating! and thanks for the compliment :)
rua - yeah, i kind of agree with you. can you imagine if halloween and xmas didn't exist??
Doesn't bare thinking about
Gorgeous photo!
Thanks for stopping by my blog too.
Hi Tina!
Nice pics.
I want to get into photography also, but first I need to save to get a good camera because my mobile phone camera isn't doing justice to what I can see and want to capture.
Thank you for dropping by at my blog and leaving a comment. :)
Only one year, when I was living in Canada I joined the Halloween costume crowd and dressed like a.. uhm I don't know cross between a vampire and witch?
I'll be back to look through the archives!

It's a Hokaido Pumpkin. They're really rich and gorgeous. Great in soup, Pumpkin bread, pancakes...
You don't like Pumpkin Pie?? That's so sad. It's one of my favouritest things, but then I grew up with it. Makes a difference.
@Jo - I've never had Pumpkin pie.
:(
Jo - i've only had it once, years ago, and really didn't like it, but maybe it was just a bad pie? i'd happily try it again.
My son was born on halloween..full moon and everything. Now THAT's scary!!! Great blog BTW
