i saw this shooting gallery

in temple bar, on east essex street. it is where junkies shoot up. people can watch them through the small windows. sometimes a junkie overdoses and dies and an ambulance arrives and the people watching say 'oh my god' and shake their heads. then they go to starbucks.

junkies are scary. they mug people when they need money. i'm scared that one day they will need my money. but it's no one else's problem, really, i can just take a taxi.

I saw Jesus yesterday doing a line of coke.
I asked him why, he said he just discovered he had Attentin Deficit Disorder. I said O my God, you're a retard?
"Bless you my son," he said: I'll forgive you, but I think you may have a bigger problem than me."
What do you mean I asked.
He said: "I mean you looked at the world lately."
Well, I know a girl who saw a bit of it through a hole the other day now that you mention it;-)

Junkies are scary. It may make me sound callus but I have no sympathy for them. Make your be and all that stuff.

I had the unfortunate experience of being mugged a few years ago. It was on the quays and it was one of the most terrifying 20 seconds of my life. Not good at all.

@ momentary madness - amen to that ;)

@ mike - thanks, i'm glad to hear that!

@ lottie - i'm so sorry to hear you were mugged. i would probably die from terror if that happened to me. i've heard it happen to too many people!

If I may comment to a comment: Lottie, I had an aunt we called Lottie, lived in London all her life.
"Junkies are scry."
I worked for a time in loosly termed B&B for the homeless. I met with quite a number heroin addicts.
I'm not belittling what you said knowing/working with them I wouldn't want to meet them on a dark street when ther're in need of a hit.
But, what was more scary to me were the criminals who ran the B&B and further up the scale the criminals in government who perpetuate the whole system of drug-running.
I don't know exactly, but I guess the drug suad are the or one of the biggest forces within the police/Garda. With out going into it too much: it pays a lot of wages,(a great reason to get tax payers money) and at the same time provides a means to keep control of the proles.
Think of the big picture;-)

HI MM - It was a bit of a generalised comment.

My mum (is an angel - I don't know where she got me from) worked with Focus Ireland for years and was very open minded and caring towards the addicts she worked with.

I then lived and worked on the Quays and in Dublin City Centre for a few years. I know I am stereotyping but I use the "junkies" to refer to those gee eyes people who you will see on the quays, who have no problem shouting abuse at you and who will do whatever they can for their next hit (My Point)

Hi tina, I didn't realise 'i saw this' was you, I love it, it has a lot of power - all the more for the simple sentence - I was telling my husband about it the other day and he understood it was because 'I saw this and...' turns the photo into an experience instead of just a record.

I like swearing and olives though, so I don't know if there's any future for us ;)

@Jo - thanks for the nice comment. I think you're just going to have to bake a lot of cupcakes for me to make up for your swearing and olive eating :)

I don't know how I manage to maintain such a level of naivety five years into Dublin living, but I had no idea there were such places. Really sad.

I'm absolutely adoring your blog :)
